The Day Before: the development of the MMO that mixes The Last of Us and The Division needs… volunteers!

The Day Before is understated, but development is in full swing so they can be among the most impactful experiences. Moreover, the teams need arms and have decided to set up a kind of volunteering to manage certain axes around the project!

Summary

  • The Day Before is not for tomorrow
  • A very special status in the studio’s projects

The Day Before is not for tomorrow

At the start of 2022, a large number of gamers across the world most certainly couldn’t contain their excitement when the multiplayer survival title unveiled. a trailer of great beauty and full of technologies to immerse us, once again, in his universe. However, it is one of the few communication elements to which we have had the right for a few months, to the great regret of those who have already added it to their wishlist on Steam. (and there are a bunch of them!). If the enthusiasm around this project still eludes you, a recent article in our columns returned to the reasons for such a wait!

At the time, we thought the title would shine on computerPS5 and Xbox Series X|S by the end of 2022, but this is not the case. Last May, the studio behind The Day Before — which is announced as a brilliant mix between The Last of Us and The Division — declared that the release, scheduled for June, was no longer on the agenda and that it would be necessary to return from March 1, 2023 to participate in this immense adventure under Unreal Engine 5. Thus, the developers leave themselves about eight months to refine the adventure: in this regard, on their site, an intriguing announcement was recently posted!

A very special status in the studio’s projects

First of all, remember that the studio behind The Day Before is based in Indonesia and that the terms used and transcribed may hide certain specificities. In its communication, the Fntastic studio presents each of its employees as a “ volunteer (a “volunteer”, therefore, which can also be translated as “volunteer” in French), and that the very culture of the studio is based on “volunteering”. Thereby, there are two volunteer positions: on the one hand, full-time (who receive, in return, a salary) and, on the other hand, part-timers (similar to volunteers) who are entitled to non-monetary benefits (such as participation certificates and free codes).

As GamesRadar spotted, it is therefore this category of employees that the studio is actively looking for. A section dedicated to volunteers has been set up and, today, the studio is opening the door to additional labor to support the teams on certain points, in particular translation and community management.. Or very specific missions that are technically carried out by qualified individuals, and this, against remuneration. Note that the studio does not explicitly specify whether these are tasks relating to The Day Beforebut given the extra time given to development, it might just be.
